Switch-mode
power supply (SMPS) is the small unit behind the CPU tower which gives the power
supply to the mother board and other devices in
your computer. If you see that your computer is not being powered on, you can
suspect the failure of SMPS. Ofcourse, there can be many other reasons. But
the most common fault would
be with the SMPS. Let me tell you how to
check whether the SMPS is working or not.
Remove the SMPS from the CPU Cabinet and detach all its connections to the PC. Power it on and short the green and black wire (On 20 or 24 pin ATX). If the SMPS fan rotates, it is perfectly fine.
